Nightwishは、フィンランドのシンフォニック・メタル・バンド。ゴシック、オペラティック・メタルの代表的存在でもある。1996年?2005年までボーカルを勤めた「ターヤ嬢
」。彼女が歌うオペラティックなボーカルとフィンランド文化、クラシックとメタルの絶妙な組み合わせのバンド。
個人的に一番好きなバンドである。元々クラシックとオペラが好きだった自分にとっては待ってましたといわんばかりの、はまりまくりのバンド
アーティストやバンドが好きな人ではなく、本当に音楽が好きな人に進めたい唯一のバンドである
2005年にターヤ嬢が解雇され、第一期「Nightwish」が幕を閉じる。
2007年から新しくアネット嬢を迎えて第二期「Nightwish」がスタートする。

が残した5枚のアルバムは、メタル界では大きな影響を与えたことでしょう。
4thアルバムから参入したベース兼男性ボーカルの「マルコ」と「ターヤ嬢」のツインボーカルは、完成されたものであった。「Nightwish」以降このツインボーカルスタイルのメタルバンドが、世にたくさん出てきたのは言うまでもない
同時期にデビューしたオランダの「Within Temptation」がいるが、こちらも同じゴシック要素、シンフォニック要素のメタルバンドである。Within Temptationが「明」だとすると、Nightwishは「暗」である。
